Distinguish a symptom from its cause
A symptom after treatment may relate to the procedure, medicines, the product or an unrelated illness. Do not assume every symptom is expected, or that it proves the treatment is working. Give the assessing clinician the treatment date, product name and other medicines received.

Questions before the procedure
- Which effects are expected, and how long should they last?
- Which symptoms require same-day review or emergency care?
- Who do I contact outside normal opening hours?
- What can I take for discomfort, given my usual medicines?
- Where should I go if I am already back in my home country?
Ask the clinician to separate tissue-collection effects, local injection effects, infusion reactions and risks from any preparatory treatment. The instructions should match the route you receive.
When to seek urgent help
Severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, collapse or sudden confusion needs immediate emergency assessment. Fever with a rapidly worsening injection site, a very hot swollen joint or feeling seriously unwell warrants urgent medical review. Follow the treating team’s instructions for any lower threshold that applies to your condition.
Do not wait for a social message reply or try to explain away a serious symptom as a “healing reaction”. Tell the emergency team about the procedure and bring the treatment record if available.
Keep a useful record
Note when a symptom began, how it changed and what you took for it. Keep the product and batch information, discharge summary and follow-up contacts. Ask the treating clinician how suspected adverse events are reported to the appropriate authority.
