Confirm the knee diagnosis first
Ask the clinician to distinguish osteoarthritis from other sources of knee pain. Bring imaging reports, previous treatment details and a description of how symptoms affect walking, stairs or sleep. Ask which additional tests would change the decision.

What to ask for in the estimate
- One knee or both knees, clearly specified
- Exact cell preparation and any tissue-collection fee
- Procedure, imaging guidance if planned, and facility charges
- Rehabilitation assessment and follow-up measurements
- Charges if the procedure is cancelled after examination
Ask for the currency, quote expiry date, payment schedule and cancellation terms. Separate optional services from required care, and identify what is excluded.
Compare benefit as well as the bill
Write down a measurable goal, such as a change in walking tolerance, and ask when it will be assessed. The price should not be presented as payment for guaranteed cartilage regrowth. Check whether a repeat injection has separate evidence and a separate consent decision.
Ask an orthopaedic clinician how the proposed injection fits with usual non-surgical care and whether a surgical opinion is appropriate. Read stem cells versus knee replacement before treating these as equivalent purchases.
Budget beyond the injection
Clarify medication, rehabilitation, time off work and assistance at home. An injection fee and an episode-of-care cost are different figures. Ask whether follow-up is included if improvement is limited and who evaluates new or worsening symptoms.

Is a higher cell count worth a higher price?
The count alone cannot establish value. Ask how the preparation and proposed dose match clinical evidence.
Does a cheaper injection save the cost of surgery?
That cannot be promised. Discuss your diagnosis and the consequences of delaying an indicated operation with your orthopaedic clinician.
